Y12 ESS Field Trip
Last week the Year 12 ESS students went on a field trip to the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) institute, a research facility of the University of Hong Kong at the base of Cape D’Aguilar.
Students investigated biodiversity in the bay by identifying and recording different species and comparing them to historical data. They were also given a tour of the research facilities, before going out onto the rocky shore to study the difference between exposed and sheltered areas using quadrats.
It was great for our students to be able to apply their knowledge to a real life context and to statistically analyse their data. This not only helps them understand the syllabus, but also helps prepare them for their own internal assessment taking place in June.
