The Sedan Chair Race team has won the annual charity race, 29 October 2017 with the record time of 9mins 43secs. Over a 2.1km course, starting at the Matilda Hospital, teams of 9 runners carry the Sedan Chair with a 10kg weight.

Island School has won the race many times before, but last year they took the silver medal, so the pressure was on to win back the title of the fastest team.

The team started training right from the beginning of term. The team said, “These trainings sessions paid off as we really came together as a team and we are proud of what we accomplished in the end.”

This race is the main fundraising event for the Sedan Chair Charities Fund; which supports smaller charitable organisations. To date the race has raised over $70 million and has helped 134 local charities.
