Bronze AYP
Over two days last week the Bronze AYP groups successfully completed their expeditions in Lantau. After catching a Friday morning ferry to Mui Wo, a 12km hike over mountains and through valleys led to the ‘view of the day’ atop Temple Crag. From here, the participants had a 360 degree view of their entire day’s hike and the enticing campsite down in Pui O. After arriving, a hot dinner cooked on camping stoves filled hungry bellies!
Saturday was an early and cold awakening with waves crashing nearby. But the participants quickly packed away tents and sleeping bags, made hot drinks and set off again – this time up towards Lantau Peak. The steep climb was arduous, especially with already tired legs, but luckily a path circuiting the mountain was discovered and followed. A long lunch was necessary before striding downhill past monasteries beautifully nestled in the forest. The citizens of Tung Chung were no doubt surprised as smiling groups of adventurers stumbled past for the final kilometres to the finish. Well done to all 28 students who passed their Bronze expedition – It’s by no mean feat!
