Art classes for refugees and asylum seekers

To alleviate the disruption brought by the COVID-19 earlier in March, the Boundless Voices team organised a series of summer courses during Easter Break for refugees and asylum seekers in the city.

Partnering with Refugee Union and Grassroots, the team conducted daily classes from 4 – 8 April on Creative Expression with students aged 6-12. Through a series of interactive activities, participants honed their English speaking skills and were encouraged to be confident when expressing themselves. By the end of the week, students engaged in lively debate and spoke passionately about their views.

The following week, the team organised origami workshops to unleash the creativity of students of all ages. Participants learned how to create a wide variety of objects for the first time, and were challenged as well as entertained by this unique learning experience.

“I’m really proud of their growth over the course, and I’m ecstatic seeing how much they enjoyed these sessions!” said Hans Yang (12W), a facilitator of the course.

Boundless Voices is an Island School initiative that aims to amplify the voices of refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong and beyond.
