Y12 AYP Silver Award

17 Year 12 students completed their three-day qualifying expedition for the AYP Silver Award from 9th-11th March.

Students set out hiking from Tung Chung MTR station on Thursday morning, carrying all their camping gear, cooking equipment and food for a 2-night, 3-day expedition that would see them qualify to receive their silver award.
After a stiff uphill climb with heavy packs on the Thursday students camped at the foot of Lantau Peak at the Ngong Ping campsite. On Friday one group set off over the summit of Lantau Peak and the other group took the equally challenging climb to the top of Sunset Peak. Both groups met up again after a hot day in the unrelenting mountain sunshine at the beachside campsite of Pui O.
After a night punctuated by the calls of birds, frogs and the occasional dog barking, students awoke to prepare for the final day, which saw them hiking past the local buffaloes to reach the journey’s end at Mui Wo. Well done to all the Year 12 students, who demonstrated perseverance, tenacity and physical strength in order to complete the expedition.
