WANBO: Food Cartons Collection Campaign

To continue the collection and recycling food cartons campaign from the previous academic year, students in WANBO have been working hard behind the scenes.

On Wednesday 1 December, new recruits from WANBO as well as existing members were working together to help collect, count and package the food cartons. Justin Wong (11E), a new recruit from WANBO said: “Starting off with this makes me feel more motivated to partake in the many more campaigns WANBO has in store for us in the coming year. It’s a great feeling to contribute even if just a little, to something greater in the grand scheme of things.

Food and beverage cartons – These will be collected and sent to Mil Mill, the first pulp mill and education centre that recycles these beverage cartons in Hong Kong, which will then be converted into paper pulp and turned into toilet paper, which we will then use at school.

So rather than throwing these types of waste away at home, please wash and clean these before being brought into school to be recycled. See how to clean and prepare your cartons at this link –  cartons instructions. Students can then put the white and silver carton’s in the correctly designated bins. These can be found near the entrance to the school on the Tai Wai campus and at the bottom of the stairs in the covered areas on the ground floor at the Sha Tin Wai campus.

Alexandra Lai (10W), an existing member of WANBO said: “it is nice to see this being brought forward within our school with meaningful intent and purpose! Hopefully, this will be continued throughout the year.”

Please be reminded that the clothing drive and the food carton drive is still ongoing, so if you have any spare clothes or food cartons lying around, do to bring them to school and recycle them!

WANBO is looking to recruit new student volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Ross Burrough at ross.burrough@online.island.edu.hk
