The Nicola Myers and Kenneth McBride Fund

Each year Island School raises money for the Nicola Myers and Kenneth McBride Fund, founded in 1985. The fund supports students committed to educational success and in severe financial need. One recipient of the fund explains what the scholarship means to them.

Student 1 currently in Form 6, received the scholarship last year during a period of financial difficulty. He explained, “In Secondary 4, my father was no longer in my life, leaving my mother to support my life and education.”
He used the money to purchase reference books for his upcoming DSE examinations as well as food. “[The scholarship] was very helpful” he said, “I want to say that it was very useful to support my living and relieve the stress on my mother. I am very thankful.

Listen to this scholarship student who wrote to say thank you to the Island School community, and better understand who the NMKM Fund is supporting  (prox. 30sec).

At the Winter Gala the Island School community will be raising money for the Nicola Myers and Kenneth McBride Memorial Fund.
Come to the gala (student run event) and enjoy the festive spirit.  If you can donate a prize for the gala’s lucky draw or a spot prize. Please contact Higher Education Guidance Counsellor, Rebecca Lucas Timpany, if you can donate a prize. We are especially looking for something a family can enjoy worth $5000+.
