Student Awards and Achievements

Island School Athletic teams completed the HKSSF Interschool Athletics Competitions with multiple wins.

The Girls Athletics Team competed in the Division 2 competition on 26 Feb, 4 and 7 March, 2019. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the athletes worked hard and performed well. Below are some of the outstanding performances from the team.

High Jump 

A Grade: Abbey Jade Hammond, Victoria Work, Yunah Frank & Paige Wills

Chelsea Tse – 10th in C Grade
Emilie Grobe – 5th in B Grade
Amber Horne – 6th in A Grade

Track

Lily Sheary – 1st place in 1500M and 4th in the 800M in B Grade
Wenchy Lai – 2nd in both 800M and 1500M in B Grade
Yunah Frank – 2nd in 200M and 4th in 400M in A Grade
Victoria Work – 2nd in 1500M and 3rd in 800M in A Grade
Natalia Elliott – 9th in 1500M in A Grade
A Grade Girls – 1st in 4 x 400M Relay Final
B Grade Girls – 6th in 4 x 400M Relay Final
A Grade Girls – 4th in overall.

B Grade: Lily Sheary, Emilie Grobe, Wenchy Lai, Crescent Choi

The girls athletics team overall finished in 7th place.

A Grade girls won the 1st place in 4 x 400M relay.

B Grade girls 4 x 400M relay team came 6th in the final.

A Grade: Abbey Jade Hammond, Victoria Work, Yunah Frank & Paige Wills

The Boys Athletics Team did a sterling job of consolidating their success and promotion to division 2 last year. Mr Sexton Director of Sports said, “Key to this was the commitment shown by our athletes to battle through the elements and meet all the challenges that a three day event holds.”

Excellent performances were plentiful – a few worth special mention, Ian Bentall recorded personal bests in both 100m and 200m. He was particularly happy with 23.68sec in the 200m. He ran 2 heats and the final and achieved a personal best each time. Kevin Hong in the 110 hurdles-PB of 16.48 and Matthew Frank 400m a PB of 54.6 a full second quicker than he has run before.
