STEM X Club

This term, Year 7 and Year 8 students have been participating in Island School’s STEM X Club. The club, which is run by a group of motivated, organised and dedicated Year 12 science students as part of the Island School CAS programme, aims to enrich student’s interdisciplinary knowledge of STEM based subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through research and group projects, so that students extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Year 12 students running STEM X club comment that “from meeting new Year 7’s and 8’s to planning out the engaging weekly STEM activities – running STEM-X has been extremely rewarding! We have been exploring how DNA is extracted from fruits, the reactions of different acids in fruit to create mini volcanoes, and the use of indicators such as phenolphthalein”.
