The Spring Concert celebrates work from the classrooms and extra-curricular ensembles. The concert featured performances from the:

  • Chamber Orchestra,
  • Chamber Choir,
  • Jazz Band,
  • IB and IGCSE classes
  • Woodwind Quartet and,
  • Chinese Drumming group.

The evening featured a diverse and international programme from Bach to Bizet and The Beatles. Music Teacher, Ms. Claudia Lau, who leads the Chamber Choir, congratulated them on their “high level of musicality and rising to the challenge of bringing 4-part harmony and multilingual singing back to Island School.

IB Music student Varun Suresh 13F created an original work in collaboration with the Jazz Band. His piece was inspired by South African jazz musicians including Kippie Moeketsi and Pat Matshikiza. He thanked the student musicians saying: “It was a surreal (and nerve-racking) experience for me to hear my piece being performed in front of an audience for the very first time, I want to express my gratitude to the musicians who performed it and I am delighted by all the praise it received. I definitely enjoyed listening to it from the sidelines!”

Head of Music, Joseph Travers said,  “The students are amazing musicians who have worked hard for months so they could perform the challenging repertoire. I am constantly amazed by the level of musicianship they show and their willingness to develop as musicians.”

“A special commendations go to the Year 13 musicians. They are a amazing group of musicians and they are role models to younger musicians in the school. They have been instrumental in bringing live music to Island School and unite our community. Thank you for your resilience, your perseverance and your energy and enthusiasm for music.”
