Pride Week 2024

Hi Island School!

Pride Week will be taking place next week, from May 7th to May 10th, celebrating ‘DEI’ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) and the LGBTQ+ community. Several activities will take place throughout the week:

On Tuesday, carnival stalls will be hosted in the Courtyard (G/F) during lunchtime, where you can get temporary LGBTQ-themed tattoos and create artwork that aligns with the theme, ‘Pride Week’. Completed artworks will then enter a nomination process, where students will be given the opportunity to vote for 3 pieces of artwork that are: ‘most creative’, ‘celebrating diversity’, and ‘best overall’. Winners will be awarded prizes, with winning pieces being posted on the Social Action Instagram account (@socialaction_is).

On Wednesday, there will be a screening of ‘The Prom’ (2020) in the Library (G06) during lunchtime, a musical comedy film that tells the story of a group of Broadway actors who support a high school student banned from attending her prom due to her sexual orientation. Food will also be provided for free.

On Thursday, more carnival stalls will be hosted in the Courtyard (G/F) during lunchtime, where you can purchase rainbow bracelets, rainbow stickers, etc.

On Friday, there will be a Kahoot trivia quiz during long break in room G016. Two form representatives per form will be given the chance to take part and answer questions related to the LGBTQ+ community.
