Message From The Principal, 19 Jan 2018

Dear Parents and caregivers

I’ve long held the belief that resilience is a critical character strength and the best test of resilience is adversity and change. It has been wonderful being part of Island School this week and watching the students and teachers return to the routines that play such a pivotal role in the ongoing success of our great school.

For those who were in the school this week you would have observed students who were both focused on their learning and yet relaxed in their new surroundings. This is truly remarkable and reminds us all of the tremendous student body we have at Island School.

One of the key ingredients of this success has been the inspirational leadership provided by the students themselves. The head students, student council, student union and ambassadors have provided a fiber that has ensured that every student made the crossing from Borrett Road to Sha Tin successfully.

Parents can rest assured it is business as usual at Island School. So much so that yesterday we kicked off the process for identifying the next group of head students.

Mr Chan collected all of the Year 12 students together and explained the selection process. The current head students and Mrs Hodson shared our philosophies on leadership, its importance at Island School and encouraged perspective candidates.

I shared my view that every one of the students were leaders but we must select four to embody the schools values and carry the traditions established by the outstanding head students that have gone before.

The highlight of the session was the incredible insights provided by our current head students Dylan Ngan and Karen Ng which you can read here.

I ask year 12 parents to discuss their child’s possible candidature and look forward to keeping you informed of the outcome in the near future.
