His Dark Materials Gears Up To Light Up The Stage
This year’s whole school production, His Dark Materials, is getting ready for a series of performances at 7:30pm on the 6, 7 & 8 December. The shows will be the culmination of months of rehearsals, featuring students from across the years acting, directing, and more.
The cast includes 53 students, as well as having support from 10 members of staff. Students from various Elements courses have provided their creative insight, from painting puppets to designing the bear heads used in the show. From stage combat and puppetry to lighting, students have also been given the opportunity to work with professional thespians and improve their skills.
Gloria Leung, 10E, expressed her passion for the production. “It opens up a platform for people who are drama enthusiasts. A lot of us are beginners, and the school production gives us the opportunity to learn more skills and it shows us what it’s really like to collaborate with other people who love drama.”
This is the first year in Island School for Year 7 Audrey Leung. She said: “I think this play is really fun and it’s new and exciting. It teaches me to be more creative, and to build up my self- confidence when I perform on stage.”
