Global Politics x ISSJ to Raise Awareness on Women’s Rights
Students in the Global Politics Club have been celebrating women’s rights as part of the Social Justice groups’ advocacy work, on 13th April 2021.
To recognise the significance of women, Global Politics Club students chose prominent female politicians of their choice such as Kamala Harris, Angela Merkel, Aung San Suu Kyi and Jacinda Ardern to name a few, and created a detailed presentation about their life. This activity recognises the cultural, political and socio-economic achievements of women, and brings attention to the issues of gender equality.
Global Politics & MG20 Club leader and ISSJ member, Sam Hui (11W) said, “The issue of gender disparity has been alarming, especially during the pandemic, as women face increased economic and social discrimination. The main objective of this activity was to encourage students to be more open-minded towards the perception of gender roles and to appreciate the significance of women in today’s society.”
Mr Jason Wells, Head of Economics commented, “Well done to Sam Hui (11W) and Sean Lee (11N) for their outstanding leadership of the club, and for bringing out such a prominent issue for discussion. All students produced work to a very high standard, demonstrating sound knowledge and understanding of their chosen figure. They went into tremendous depth and detail and thoroughly researched their topic with passion and enthusiasm. It is clear that they understood the significance of this issue well.”
Global Politics & MG20 Club is held weekly every Tuesday. Year 7-10 students who are interested in joining the club can sign up on the Gateway.
