Geography Department Receives the Secondary Geography Quality Mark

For its excellence in teaching and learning, Island School’s geography department has been awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark from the Geographical Association, this month

According to the Geographical Association, “All the award winners undergo a rigorous moderation process, and the team of assessors were hugely impressed by the manner in which all are continuing to embrace new and innovative approaches to teaching geography.”

“We are delighted to receive this award and pleased that students and teachers in Island School Geography are working towards improving our standards to the highest levels,” says Howard Davis, the Head of Geography at Island School.

“The [Island School Geography] department already had a large number of strengths and the process has enabled us to target items for our development for the coming years,” notes Mr. Davis, “we are building more GIS (Geographic Information Systems ) course, continuously reviewing assessment policy and developing new strategies for teaching and learning based on research.”
