Crime scene investigations in the lab
Students in the STEM Elements course Forensic Science organised a fictional crime scene by applying the techniques they have learned in class.
In the scene, Mr Jobling was found dead, with one dead teacher and five suspects. This was the culmination of a forensics project in which the students learnt about different techniques used by biologists, chemists and physicists who support police crime units. With their in-depth knowledge of blood typing, refractive indexes, powder analysis and chromatography. They certainly learned a lot, while at the same time discovering that it was in fact Mr Siu who stabbed Mr Jobling on the 5th floor of Tai Wai on that fateful day.
It was brilliant to see STEM in action with students teaching other about forensic science techniques.
