CLUE on Stage

Last week, Island School’s Creative Arts faculty presented ‘CLUE on Stage’.

Based on the iconic 1985 movie which was inspired by the classic board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects.

In a first for Island School, the show was entirely produced, directed, promoted and crewed by students. Year 12 IBDP/CP students took on roles as stage managers, designers, sound and lighting design and promotion. They were ably supported by our teaching staff and students from Year 8 to Year 11, our next generation.

Creative Arts Director Paul McCracken, said ‘The show was wonderfully acted with a stand out performance by Freddy Lepine as Wadsworth the Butler and a young, hungry talented ensemble cast. Comedy is challenging and this play incorporates word play, physical comedy and a lot of silliness. All performers have shown craft and perseverance in learning lines, creating character and comic timing in very short 10 weeks. They absolutely nailed it and showed the strength of actors we have at Island School. It’s a rare show where the production team is much larger than the performance team but this allowed us to highlight the importance of production roles in creating and shaping our work.

Our next whole school production will be ‘Chicago’ in 2025 which will bring together our dance, music, theatre and visual arts teams for one spectacular musical show
