Channel Swim Raises Money for Sedan Chair Charity

PE Teacher Sarah Leung and Head of CAS and TOK, Colin Spanos

Staff and students embarked on an English Channel swim in the school pool as part of the Sedan Chair Charity Week, 22 June 2017. At 6am Vice Principal, Jenny Hodson, led from the front and was first in the pool to begin a long day of swimming.

The shortest distance of the English Channel is 34km and Year 7 and 8 students quickly raced past this mark, including a mighty 4.2km from Lily Sheary in 8F!

A long swims from Senior Head of Wilberforce House Kate Sommerville and HE Coordinator Roger Wilkinson ensured that staff closed in on their target and eventually they got over the line at 3.55pm.

Head of CAS and TOK, Colin Spanos, who swam and organised the event said: “It was a great day and there are some amazing swimmers at Island School. The students completed over 100km, which was exceptional, and it was also a great team effort from the staff. Thank you to everyone that supported the event – we have raised over $8000 for the Sedan Chair Charity which supports many small Hong Kong charities.
