The current Island School Alliance campaign is in support of the Nicola Myers Kenneth McBride Fund, which supports students committed to educational success but in severe financial need.
One recipient of the fund explains what the scholarship means to them.
Student 1 received the scholarship in 2017 during a period of financial difficulty. He explained, “In Secondary 4, my father was no longer in my life, leaving my mother to support my life and education.”
He used the money to purchase reference books for his upcoming DSE examinations as well as food. “[The scholarship] was very helpful” he said, “I want to say that it was very useful to support my living and relieve the stress on my mother. I am very thankful.”

The Nicola Myers Kenneth McBride Memorial Fund is in memory of two Island School students who tragically died over 30 years ago. Each year since then, with the support of their families, the Island School community has raised money to help children committed to educational success but in severe financial need. Each individual is awarded a bursary which supports their continued education, and is often used to buy books, school materials or is used for general living costs. Bursaries are $3000.
