Having not won a victory against KGV in 4 years the A grade boys rugby team had something to prove at their match on 26 Sep, 2017.
KGV went ahead quickly at the start, but this catalysed the boys to up their game. Luke Rae-Howard soon equalised the scores at 7-7 but KGV took another try and went into half time 7-14 up. Knowing this was their chance to beat KGV, Island School scored early in the second half by way of the half-time sub, Kyle Tsang, to take it to 12-14.
KGV soon scored another but an instant reply by Julian Onderwater saw the game go to 17-19.
Neal Bentall took a penalty and drove over the line taking the game to 22-19. The final two points were added by way of conversion at the end of the game making the final scores 24 Island School 19 KGV. This was Island School’s first victory against KGV for 4 years in any age grade and the boys’ first!
