Yu Tackles Global Education With an Illustrated Book
Around the world, over 72 million children don’t have access to primary school education. With this alarming statistic in mind, Yu Kakinoki (13R) set out to make a difference by illustrating and selling her own books to raise money for NGOs that provide education for children (Katja House in Nepal and Cambodia Care).
Each copy of her book “Sam’s Jungle Zoo” is $60 and is “full of rhymes and fun, perfect for kids and beginners learning English. With a song and a word search, this book is full of surprises!” For each purchase, $32 of the proceeds will be donated to the aforementioned charities and $28 will go to printing. Yu initiated the project and it has taken her almost a year to complete with author Elaine Crebo.
