ANAIA fashion show turns clothing to cash
It has been a landmark year for the ANAIA Fashion Show which raised over $50,000 for Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre. Six months in the planning, the Anaia team including 19 committee members, 30 models and four live acts worked together to sell out the house.
Nearly 300 people came to the show on Saturday the 20th February. The $600 gold tickets sold out fast and who wouldn’t want a gold ticket which included a front row seat, a gift bag including spa and restaurant vouchers along with complimentary refreshments and canapés provided by Double D Burger.
One of the biggest lines at the show was from Island Schools Elements class “Fashion Forward”the student designers showcased their sustainable designs from disassembled existing garments creating individual one off pieces, such as trousers turning into fashionable tops and jumpers into skirts. Sharing the catwalk with these handmade pieces were high end boutique fashion labels such Diane Freis and as Melissa Bui Atelier.
The finale to the show consisted of ultra-sophisticated and elegant clothing presented by Luxe Tuxedo and Susanna Soo Atelier. Head Organiser Saiesha Hardasani said; “The sharp suits and satin and silk dresses made for a romantic end to an evening that grows in professionalism and popularity year on year. The evening was perfect, I am really proud of how hard everyone has worked to raise money and awareness for Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre.”
Head Organiser Chirag Bellani; “It was a lot of hard work and I think we were all exhausted after the show but also on a real high.” “We now have to pass the energy and enthusiasm to next year’s committee.”
