The Technology Faculty has been awarded the Design Mark

The Technology Faculty has been awarded the Design Mark quality standard. Jointly developed by the Design and Technology Association, the UK Design Council and the UK Dept for Education, it is intended as an aspirational badge awarded to schools that demonstrate excellence in their teaching of design.

To be awarded the accreditation evidence has to be submitted against 21 assessment criteria. These cover the beliefs and values about design education, the quality of resources, the quality of design education management, and, most importantly the quality of teaching and learning in design.

The process has taken the faculty 2 years and Island School now joins only 59 other schools worldwide to have been awarded this accreditation, the second in Hong Kong.
Mark Roper, Head of Faculty for Technology, said, “The intention of the Design Mark is to act as a driver of reflection and change. The criteria are broad and prompt discussion about what we do, why and how well we do it. It’s been a hard process to go through and although we have the accreditation I am still keen to improve and challenge ourselves as a department.

It is great recognition for the hard work and creativity of the technology faculty teaching and support staff. They thoroughly deserve the glass of champagne we had at the end of term to celebrate!”.
