History Trip to the HK Coastal Defence Museum
As part of their historical investigation, students from the ‘Big History Elements course visited the HK Coastal Defence Museum on the 19th June.
Here is a write up from Trinity Au Yeung 10E: “Our recent field trip to the HK Coastal Defence Museum was a truly unforgettable experience that allowed us to leave the classroom and interact with History up-close. As part of our Big History Elements course, we were privileged to get a sneak peek into the IGCSE China History curriculum and learned about the Opium War, which was both informative and engaging.
The museum provided us with an excellent opportunity to explore the intricacies of the war, such as the torpedo station, trail station, west caponier, and forts, which we had previously only read about in textbooks. Witnessing these historical artefacts up close was truly an awe-inspiring experience that allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of their significance.
But it wasn’t tedious at all. As self-proclaimed history geeks, we also had a lot of fun during the trip. We spent time chatting and laughing at the café, enjoying each other’s company and sharing a passion for history. It was a great chance to get to know one another better outside of the classroom and build stronger bonds.
Overall, the field trip was an enriching experience that enabled us to explore history in a hands-on, interactive way. It was a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the events that have shaped our world and to appreciate the importance of studying history. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers, Ms Weston, Ms Mc Phee and Mrs Mirpuri, for organizing the trip and giving us a much-needed break from our practice exams”.
