Charlie Lam Named as the Hong Kong Young Writer 2021
A massive congratulations to all the Island School students for their outstanding achievements at the Hong Kong Young Writers Awards 2021. Selected from thousands of entries, four Island School students: Charlie Lam and Ady Lam (both 11E), Tsz Hin Sam Hui and Nicole Yuen (both 11W) were shortlisted or won their chosen category.
Charlie Lam also won the overall winner award and has been named as The Hong Kong Young Writer, 2021.
“I am thrilled that Island School performed so well in this competition! I can’t express how grateful I am for the guidance and support from my teachers. I have always been interested in writing, and I hope to inspire more people with my words.”, said Charlie.
The Hong Kong Young Writers Awards (HKYWA) is an annual competition organised by Playtimes magazine, aims to foster excellence in creativity by providing students aged from 6-18 with the opportunity to develop their talents and expand their horizons in English writing. Entry categories range from fiction, non-fiction, poetry to cover art.
This year, participants were asked to write about Huangshan, one of the greatest mountains in eastern China based on the theme of “Tales from China’s Magical Mountains“. You can watch the online award ceremony here.
