Message from Middle Phase VP, Nick Lee

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It has been an absolute delight having our Year 9, 10 and 11 students back in school this week. While it has been a challenge maintaining the health and safety measures we have in place at school, I have to say your children have been absolutely supportive of our directive. I have spent much of my time walking around the classrooms and it has struck me how important the social aspect of teaching is. Education is all about relationships and it has been a true pleasure seeing the students and staff engaging in the classroom once again.

It has been challenging for all of our teaching and support staff during the closure. However for practical subjects, the limitations of not having face-to-face teaching is profound. Seeing Drama, PE, Art and DT lessons take place this week has been a highlight and while students are limited in their ability to interact in these subjects, the creativity of the teachers has allowed for some excellent learning to take place.

We are currently looking at a way in which Year 9 and Year 10 students can review the learning that they have undertaken this year across their subjects. It is important that we encourage students to connect with the various competencies we look to develop in them – what are their strengths? How can they build on their developmental areas? You will hear more details about this in the coming newsletter.

I know that for Year 11 students, one of the things on their minds is the finish to this academic year. On Tuesday 23, June Year 11 students will be coming into school and we will be running a final day for them. Included in this program will be time for them with their Tutor and Senior Head of House, a final assembly and shirt signing (socially distanced!).

We very much hope that the Graduation Dinner Dance that evening will be able to proceed and again you will hear more from me and Mr Phil Tudor on this in due course.
