Geography Research Trip in Sai Kung

Year 11 Geography students went on an overnight research trip to Sai Kung in October 24-25 as part of their IGCSE coursework on river landforms.

Students were divided into groups and under the guidance of their teachers, gathered and analysed various different pieces of information focusing upon the topic of ‘River Landforms and Processes’ at four different points along the Lung Hang River within the Sai Kung Country Park. Some of the roads and footpaths leading towards the river were quite narrow and physically demanding to walk through with certain parts requiring students to change into water shoes and walk along a rather slippery part of the river bank. 

Students also spent a night at the Po Leung Kuk Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp. 

This trip is a part of their IGCSE coursework in which students are required to submit a detailed report based on their research that they have undertaken which accounts for 27.5% of their entire IGCSE Geography curriculum. 

Cassius Whale from 11N said, ‘I found this trip to be extremely rewarding in which I was able to incorporate and use different skills that I’ve learnt and acquired over the past months to collect data that I need.’ 

Micaela Campbell-Pitt from 11W said, ‘The river was very beautiful and I enjoyed my time there.’

Howard Davis, Head of Geography, said, ‘It was great to see our year 11 Geography students engaged in practical fieldwork in such a beautiful setting of the Lung Hang Valley. Everyone worked well as a team and enjoyed the challenge of working outside the classroom.’
