Waste – Everyone’s Business!

The recent Urban Survival Elements trip to the SENT landfill was an illuminating experience for many of the students. Students witnessed the construction waste operations in action during a guided tour and received a talk about waste management strategies in Hong Kong.

Students are looking at a range of sustainably focused issues during the course and this fact finding trip was amongst one of many experiential learning opportunities that students have.

Many of the students were quite surprised at how soon our landfills will be filled up. We are following up the trip by looking further at waste management options for society through a debate about the problems and benefits of the Shek Kwu Chau incinerator as well as examining other more sustainable options.
