Maths, Merits and Pi Day

UK Maths Competition 

Mathematicians from Years 9, 10 & 11 had their skills tested in the UK intermediate Maths competition in February 2018. Ten students achieved qualifying marks and were invited to sit the more demanding next level competition.

Issac Chan: Won both best in Year 10 and best in school.  Issac was invited to try the “Hamilton Maths Olympiad” the only student in Island School to be invited to do this. Anya Saunders: Won best in Year 11 and was invited to sit the “Pink Kangaroo” international Maths competition in which she achieved a merit. Bridgette Kim: Won best in Year 9 and was invited to sit the “Grey Kangaroo” international Maths competition she also achieved a merit.

Pi Day Competition

Yu Hang Hui 9R won a personalized copy of “The Code Book” the secret history of codes and code – breaking, signed by the internationally renowned mathematician Simon Singh. This was awarded to Yu Hang as the winner of this years’ Pi Day competition for her particularly impressive and determined code breaking skills.
