Spirited Speaking – Student Takes Second Place at English Speaking Competition
Gloria Leung (10E) representing Hong Kong, won the Second Runner-up Award at the National English Speaking Competition, in Hangzhou, on 15 April 2018. She also won the third prize of the CASIO Critical Thinking Award in the same competition. The ‘China Daily – Coca-Cola Cup, National English Speaking Competition’ was held at Hangzhou Normal University from the 13 – 15 April 2018.
She competed with over 80 semi-finalists, who spoke about topics ranging from Chinese people to artificial intelligence. One of the competition prompts was ‘one thing you need to know about China’. Gloria based her speech on the Sichuan earthquake and the, great-Chinese-spirit.
When asked about the competition Gloria said, “This was a very good opportunity to meet talented speakers from all over China. I think I developed into a more skilled public speaker, I loved communicating with the audience heart-to-heart. I really enjoyed this journey.
Gloria also came first runner-up and was the audience favourite in the recent Standard Chartered English Public Speaking Contest held in February 2018. Her story can be found here.
