Green Week
Raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment Wanbo, Island School’s environmental council, organised Green Week from the, 5 – 9 March 2018.
Students up-cycled old items or products that would have been thrown away, getting hands on and creative in designing and producing their own products. Earth’s Natural Wonders film was screened and House teams competed to create the most power on rowing machines. They also painted green activity murals and wrote pledges on leafs, committing to be greener.
The dress green and blue day was arranged to raise both awareness and funds for Island School’s planned recycling plant. The whole school also participated in a “no power hour”, when all students and staff abstained from using electricity – turning off lights, heaters and laptops to reduce their carbon footprint.
