Top Ratings and Distinction Awards in Maths Competitions
Both senior and junior school students achieved top ratings in Math’s competitions held in November 2016.
In this year’s American Maths competition, over 80 students from Years 7-9 took part in “problem solving and enriching mathematics experiences”. There was a third place tie between Nathaniel Ho (9D) and Rachael Adams (9W). Nao Tamura (8N) came second. The school winner for the AMC 8 was Shelly Peng (9R). She scored within the top 5% of all the participants in the world and was awarded an honor roll certificate.
In the Canadian Intermediate and Senior Maths Contest most students were ranked within the top 25% of the 9000 participants that took part and received a certificate of distinction.
In the intermediate section, Haruto (10F) was named the school winner and was awarded a medal. The achievements of the intermediate contestants has placed Island School within the top 20% of the international sector.
