Students Pick up Medals and Awards at World Scholar’s Cup
At the Tournament of Champions, the final round of the World Scholar’s Cup, 6 Island School students achieved in different rounds held at the University of Yale 18-21 Nov 2016.
This academic competition aims to motivate students of all backgrounds, and to inspire future leaders. This year’s theme was ‘An Imperfect World’, with students from 40 countries studying 6 subjects, ranging from disease to failures of the state. The team participated in 4 competitive academic events and 5 non-academic events such as the Scholar’s Scavenge and the Scholar’s Ball. The team won numerous medals and awards across the different events and fields of study.
“It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life,” said Van An, a participating student. “I didn’t expect to make it this far, and what I’m most grateful for is that I got to meet so many people and have fun!”
“The best thing about this competition is that it’s not just about s
tudying, but about having fun and enjoying yourselve” said Ms. Eliza Kung, a student’s parent. “I won’t deny that the competition was tough, but at the end of the day, they had fun, and walked away with an experience that they will never forget.”
This was the last round of 2016’s World Scholar’s Cup. Theme for 2017 is ‘An Unlikely World’ students from Year 9 and above can join the Island School World Scholar’s Cup team. The regional round will be held on March 6-7, at Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau.
