Sedan Chair Team Takes Silver at Annual Charity Race
Sedan Chair Race team takes silver at annual charity race on the 30 October 2016. Over a 2.1km course, starting at the Matilda Hospital, teams of 9 runners carry the Sedan Chair with a 10kg weight.
Having previously won the race 3 years in a row, the pressure was on for the Island School team to take gold, but West Island School was named overall winners on the day.
Year 12 runner, Kiara Jim: “The race is a challenge that strikes you physically and mentally. Training began late this year, but we came together as a team and we pushed hard, taking 2nd place overall.”
“For many of the team members, in their final year at Island school, this was their last race. But we have been a wonderful and strong team, the friendships formed are something we will cherish forever.”
This race is the main fundraising event for the Sedan Chair Charities Fund; which supports smaller charitable organisations. To date the race has raised over $68 million and has helped 134 local charities.
