Yu Hang wins HK’s Most Creative Story Award
Yu Hang Hui (10R) has won the Most Creative Award in the Junior category of Hong Kong’s Top Story competition 2018, organised by RTHK Radio 3, HK Free Press and PEN HK. Contestants were required to write short stories based on the theme “Sounds of Hong Kong”.
Yu Hang’s story was titled ‘We Shall Strive’. About her story, the judges said: “A country’s new leader asked their citizens to be silent while the people wanted their voice to be heard. A very interesting and sarcastic way to interpret this year’s theme with a political sense. The writer is very skillful in using wordings such as, ‘You have already stolen our poor, our weak, and our will’ and ‘We want your faith, your support, and your soul’!”
Besides winning and receiving the prize, Yu Hang also had the opportunity to interview the chairperson of PEN HK, Jason Ng, who offered advice in regards to creative writing.
The ceremony was reported by the 1 2 3 Show on RTHK Radio 3 and can be viewed here. All the winning pieces from the competition can be read here.
