Year 8 STEM Day – Flooding
On Thursday 11th April, all Y8 students were out of lessons to participate in Y8 STEM Day. They worked in House groups to complete STEM based challenges, based around the theme, ‘Flooding’.
The day was launched by a guest speaker, Stuart Millis, an Engineering Geologist, who investigates and assesses geo risks in Hong Kong and across Asia. The students then spent the day designing and building a device to combat flooding (moving a set volume of water up a fixed height), designing an experiment which investigated erosion, as well as completing a range of Maths challenges. The students demonstrated excellent collaboration and critical thinking when building their devices and attempting the challenges.
The winning teams will be announced at a Year 8 assembly next Thursday.
