The Inn Thing To Do – A Hotel Study
On a fact finding and analysis mission, the BTEC Hospitality students travelled to the Maekok River Village Resort in Chiang Rai, Thailand. From the 26 Feb – 2 Mar 2018, students were given unique access to the resort’s management and support teams so they could investigate their structures and processes.
The resorts heads of department were interviewed so students could better understand their various roles. In customer service role-plays students acted as the front desk employees dealing with angry customers and housekeeping staff. They also cooked lunch for 50 guests making Thai fusion dishes.
Business Studies teacher Helen Law said, “The fact that almost every dish was empty at the end of the lunch was a great indication of the quality of the cooking!”
Students also participated in archery, wall climbing and confidence building and trust games.
Helen, “It was a very successful and productive week where all the students enjoyed being able to apply their knowledge of business and customer service to real life scenarios.”
