Students’ Race and Fundraise for Sedan Chair Charities Fund.
To kick start a week of fundraising for the Sedan Chair Charities Fund Island School’s
students won the charity’s annual peak race on 25th October 2015. The nine members of the team; Ada Ytterdal, Kiara Jim, Vanessa Aveline, Ashraf Shaik, Nick Basford, Alex Balfour, Mark Swainston, Ravin Schmidl and Sanjay Nair won the schools category with a fast time of 9minutes and 51sec.
To raise money and awareness for the Fund this week, staff and students have been selling snacks, playing volleyball and netball and dressing sporty. The Sedan Chair Charities Fund partners with a number of small charities including those that supports children with special education needs, refuges and the elderly.
Ms Campbell said: “The runners were brilliant, turning up to training on Monday and Friday lunchtimes for 2 months. They also got up early on public holidays and gave up part of their half term to practice the route round the Matilda Hospital. They had a really great attitude throughout – and were really positive and encouraging to each other.”
