Shakespeare’s Day
Did you know, Romeo and Juliet is NOT a play about romance?
On Friday 22nd September all Y11 students took part in the Romeo and Juliet Literature Launch as part of their Shakespeare Coursework. Students took on the role of Police Investigators, Crime Scene Technicians or Journalists, and tried to solve FIVE deaths that happen in the play. The students visited different scenes from the play, including a Marketplace Sword Fight and a Burial Crypt, as well as visiting a Forensics Lab and a Document Store. Students also interviewed six key witnesses to the terrible crimes.
A highlight of the events was watching the students create and update their Crime Boards as more and more evidence was discovered.
This innovative way into exploring the play engaged students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills, and enabled them to see beyond the cliche of the play just being about romance.
