Maths Modelling

Estimate the area of glass used in the Convention Center or the amount of wire required for the construction of the Tsing Ma Bridge were just two of the challenges given to Year 10 Maths students, on 28 April 2017.

Working in teams the whole Year group tackled real world problems using modeling tools including CASIO GDC Regression function, Excel and Geogebra.

Second in Maths Teacher, Derek Irwin said: “The Maths modelling day has been designed to give students the opportunity to apply regression analysis. Modelling skills become particularly important in Year 12 when Maths students are expected to produce an “Individual Assessment” on a topic of their own choosing. Knowledge of various functions and their parameters is a valuable skill in later mathematical topics.”
