ISPTA Newsletter 2021-22, Term 2
The cultural celebrations continued in Term 2, as the Island School community welcomed the Year of the Tiger, featuring the Peach Blossom wishing trees. ISPTA sponsored students’ Lai See delivery fundraiser, and donated kitchenware prizes to the Chinese dish cooking competition. We also organised an online CNY decoration workshop using upcycling materials such as Lai See packets.
In March, ISPTA was delighted to sponsor two webinars by John Shanahan, an experienced developmental and educational psychologist and teacher, on “Stress: How to manage, mitigate, and leverage stress to elevate engagement, communication, and performance”. We also launched an ISPTA Wellbeing Initiative that seeks to promote wellness and wellbeing in the school community by linking parents to useful resources.
ISPTA facilitated two Q&A sessions for webinars, one for the whole school and one for exam classes (FAQ: IGCSE, IB) to facilitate parent questions on the effect of the pandemic on school and the exam season.
For areas and initiatives supported in previous years as well as other highlights, please check out the ISPTA News section.
Finally a special call-out: the Whole School Walkathon took place in January, aiming to raise HK$300,000 for the Island School Trust charities. The main beneficiary is The Nicola and Kenneth Bursaries fund that awards HK$3,000 bursaries for underprivileged Hong Kong sixth form students who need help paying for things such as exam fees, school supplies or basics including food and transport. The trust charities also support underprivileged students in Baiwan and Nepal. Please take this opportunity to help spread hope and support to others by sending in the sponsorship forms and donations once on-campus learning resumes after the Easter break. To make an online donation please follow the instructions on the sponsorship form.
