Investigation into Mui Wo’s Ecology
Year 12 Environmental Systems and Societies students went on a trip to Mui Wo, this week, to study a tree conservation project and to develop their practical fieldwork skills. They carried out a site description of the Lantau ecology and looked into the creation and subsequent management of the tree conservation project. They learned about the importance of restoring indigenous species and the negative impacts of introducing foreign species to Hong Kong ecology. They also carried out a slope profile and sampled along a transect line. The data gathered are now being processed in the school laboratory alongside soil samples.
“Overall, it was a very productive day in a beautiful part of Hong Kong gaining hands-on experience in a successful conservation project, and it was just great to be outdoors breathing in some fresh air” said Biology Teacher, Mr. Pak Chan
