Going to Galleries, Students take a Different View of Art
Year 12 IB Visual Arts & BTEC Art & Design students attended a one day field trip visiting galleries including the current Mona Hatoum “Remains of the Day ” exhibition at the White Cube Gallery. They also visited the new Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts, which occupies the former Central Police Station.
Topics of conversation arose throughout the day, why are some objects treated as Art? How does an object’s function and significance change when it is exhibited in a special place?
Head of Visual Arts, Helen Palmer said, “Students had a fantastic day being introduced to the major galleries in Central. They not only saw original artworks in context, but had the opportunity to properly understand the impact of scale together with the handling of a variety of media.”
