Final Message from the Head Students 2022–23, 10 Feb 2023
Dear Islanders,
Firstly, we would like to congratulate Airi Tachino (12D), Hannah Lee (12R), Ray Yao (12F) and Hannah Wu (12D) for their appointment as Head Students for the 2023–24 school year! This is an extraordinary role that allows these four students to exercise their leadership and influence in shaping the school community. We are more than certain that they will continue to exemplify the Island School culture, values and spirit, and we look forward to seeing their work in making Island School an even better, more vibrant, and more interconnected place.
We take immense pride and gratification in having had the chance to serve such an extraordinary school community. We are proud to be at the helm of a school that embodies the very essence of tenacity and esprit, even through the tumultuous and precarious circumstances of the past year. As our tenure comes to an end, we want to express our deepest appreciation to the island School community for their continued support over the past year, which made many of our projects possible.
When we first assumed office, we aspired to augment the connection between the Student Council and the student body. We organised a sequence of Student Council Town Halls to ensure that the voices of the student body were perceived and taken into consideration. The feedback was aggregated and presented to the Senior Leadership Team, and we are delighted that many of the suggestions were implemented.
n addition to this, we also organised a series of Friday karaoke and sing-a-longs. This was meant to espouse the collective Islander spirit that was so palpable in the courtyard over the course of our tenure. Yesterday, like all other occasions, the courtyard at Island School was alive with jubilation and exuberance as everyone joyously participated in the activities. Everyone was enthused and delighted to be able to take part in the event, and the energy was contagious. The occasion was filled with joy, laughter, and lightheartedness. We hope that these whole school karaoke and sing-a-long activities will serve as an unforgettable experience for all participants.
We also revamped the Student Leadership page on the school website to exhibit the leadership system at Island School and its successes.
Furthermore, stretching beyond the physical boundaries of the school, we connected with other student leaders of the ESF Student Council. We conversed about general ESF topics with other senior leadership teams, and observed practices across Student Councils and Unions in different schools. We also partook in a farewell meeting with ESF CEO Ms Belinda Greer, where she spoke about the ESF Student Council’s significant role in moulding student agency and initiatives at ESF.
We are profoundly humbled to have been given a chance to bring our ideas to fruition and make a meaningful impact on our school community. It has been a privilege to serve as the Head Students of such a spirited and dynamic community. As we step down, we ask you to remember the passion and spirit of Islanders: open-minded, passionate and determined to make a difference.
With this, we wish the future Head Students all the best in their endeavours, and we hope our successors can perpetuate the legacy of Island School’s vivacious and vibrant leadership structure. We are so honoured to have served you. Thank you for such an incredible journey.
Best,
Angela Chen, Charlie Lam, Fiorelli Wong, and Sam Hui
