Chak Kei Awarded Scholarship To Study Law at UCL
The Education Bureau has awarded Island School Graduate Chak Kei Lau, Class of 2018 W, a scholarship to study a Bachelor of Law at University College London.
He was one of 83 students awarded a scholarship this year. A spokesman for the Education Bureau said, “That competition for the awards was keen and rigorous. 789 applicants who will commence their studies this year applied for the scholarships. Apart from academic achievements, selection was also based on key considerations, such as his or her leadership skills, potential as well as their commitment and contribution to Hong Kong.”
The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, officiated at the ‘Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme’ award presentation on the 23 August.
The HKSES aims to: support students to pursue studies at world-renowned universities outside Hong Kong with a view to grooming a top cadre of talents with global vision, an international network and a world-class education.
The scholarship includes tuition fees. Chak Kei said, “I am really pleased to have been awarded the scholarship. My parents and teachers supported me throughout my IB. The Higher Education department helped me with the scholarship application and I can’t thank them enough. Particularly Miss Lui for her help during the submission and Mr Budd for writing my reference.”
“I am really looking forward to studying Law and living in London, right now I am most interested in Public Law and Constitutional Law.”
