Maths
Looking at the numbers and symbols that comprise Maths work today can be confusing for the average parent, and often for the above average ones. The techniques have changed but the numerals stay the same. To help all of our students gain the best advantage the department needs 10 multi-function calculators. This will also provide the department with adequate loaner calculators to support students whose families cannot afford to purchase them. These same calculators meet IB examination requirements and can be loaned to students sitting IB exams with calculators outside of the requirements. They also need spatial equipment for visualising 3-D conceptual maths such as polyhedral, cubes, cones and spheres. The use of on-line memberships such as Manga High and iMaths allows for home-based reinforcement of maths concepts taught in class. The Maths Department would also like to support students representing Island School in the Southeast Asia Maths Competition. This year’s competition will take place in Jakarta.
