Wilberforce Charity Week
Wilberforce Week last week was a community event which involved students and parents across the House. Our large community event was a Family Quiz on Wednesday night which was attended by about 150 students, parents and House staff. The whole evening was organised by our House prefects and in particular Rory Lonergan who was the very confident and organised Quiz Master on the night. In addition special thanks to Mr Lord for organising the delicious “yellow food” and Mr Wilkinson for organising the bar.All the questions were written by Wilberforce students and the rounds were varied and fun.
All Forms throughout the week were involved in fundraising from 7W’s own design greetings cards to 11W’s Yellow food sales, sponsored walks and the whole House dress yellow day on Friday. We are currently in the process of selecting the charity that we are going to support for the next three years and the money raised this week will go towards this new charity which will be decided after CNY.
To end the week, 32 brave individuals took part in the World Vision 20 hour fast. They slept over at school, watched a presentation about poverty by World Vision as well as singing along to kareoke and challenging each other on Kahoot. They broke their fast on Saturday morning with muffins and hot chocolate provided by the house prefects.
Finally one Wilberforce student took the brave step of cutting his long hair for charity during the coldest week of the year! Ruaidhri Neville 8W has cut his long hair and is still seeking sponsors for this to go towards the House charity- well done Ruaidhri!
The whole week has been one of community action and fundraising and we hope that you have enjoyed taking part or supporting your child in this. Our thanks go in particular to Michelle Philip, Adrian Tse, Rory Lonergan and Sheryl Lau for their prominent involvement throughout the week and to all the House prefects for their support and leadership.
