Frantic Assembly comees to Island school
Fresh from their West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime actors from the physical theatre company Frantic Assembly came to Island school this week.
The actors worked with BTEC drama students using dynamic movement to build their staging of the same show (which will be part of the BTEC evening in February). Two actors, Jonnie and Jess, worked with GCSE students in the afternoon, helping them to understand how to use movement to tell a story as part of a devising process. They also worked with the IB theatre and Literature and Performance students, building movement sequences and moments of essential drama –finding new ways into the devising process.
Drama Teacher Sophie Welsh said; “They also ran a teachers’ workshop which was amazing and full of teachers from Island School and the wider Hong Kong community of schools from Chinese International to Shatin College.”
“Frantic Assembly brought their energetic, innovative and thrilling way of working to everyone – elevating the work of students and teachers alike! We all learnt skills of lifting and flying and worked on ‘Curious’ movement sequences such as ‘Astro Boy’ and ‘Swindon Whoosh’.”
“Everyone had an amazingly creative time – although some of the teachers were very stiff and sore the following day!”
