IB Collaborative Sciences Project
“Rockets are cool. There is no getting around that”, “Science is nothing but perception”, “Science is the great antidote to the poison of enthusiasm and superstition”. These are just some of the quotations that the Year 12 students investigated last week as part of the Collaborative Science Project (CSP) under the overarching theme of “Wise Words (or not)”.
The CSP brings together students in Computer Science; Design Technology; Environmental Systems and Societies; Sports, Exercise and Health Science; as well as the traditional Sciences. The focus of the CSP requires students to consider a global issue within a local context. With this in mind, students formed interdisciplinary teams to collaborate over the course of two days. Working on tasks that perhaps lay outside their own specialisms allowed them to discover how their different areas of expertise can enhance a project. Students developed their own focused research questions, planned, and developed their methodology, conducted experiments and analysed their results before presenting their conclusions in the form of a short summative video.
The teachers and technicians will judge the final videos for Best Science Content and Best Theory of Knowledge Content. The Year 12 students themselves will judge for Best Video Presentation. Prizes will be awarded next week! A massive thank you to all the Science teaching staff for supervising the project, as well as the laboratory technicians and in particular Angus Tong for his meticulous organisation.
