ISPTA Diwali Celebration Week
ISPTA celebrated Diwali during the week of 28 October with style!
Diwali Decorations
ISPTA along with parent volunteers, teachers and students celebrated Diwali (the Indian festival of lights) in style. The school campus was dressed in vibrant garlands giving a festive vibe and atmosphere to the campus.
Thank you to our parent volunteers Catherine, Arnaud, Kapila, Karen and Preeti for putting up the decorations.
Diwali Snack Sale
For the very first time, ISPTA organised a ‘Diwali Snack Sale’ for students, selling traditional sweet & savory Indian snacks motichoor laddoos, kaju katlis, dhoklas, mathri sticks, chaklis and of course, the ever-popular samosas,. All proceeds will go towards student-led projects.
Thank you to the parent volunteers Sonal, Zarrah, Fion, Kapila, Maalini, Pia, Preeti, Rashida, Sonal’s parents, and Teresa for donating these lovely treats to bring ‘a Taste of India’ to Island School and their time to support the sale
Diwali Parent Dance
For three weeks before Diwali, our parents met for practice sessions on weekends to fine-tune their debut Bollywood medley dance for Island School. On Oct 29, they performed during lunch break, adding to the spirit of Diwali celebrations.
The inner courtyard was buzzing with teachers, parents & students dancing together and a truly wonderful atmosphere! This was definitely an epic Diwali Celebration at Island School!
We are thankful to parents Zarrah for organising, Neha for choreography and the dance troupe Angel, Arnaud, Ekta, Kapila, Pooja, Preeti, Saumya, Sreeram, Sridharan, Sweta, Vaishali & Vindiya.
Diwali Cooking Masterclass
ISPTA’s last celebration of Diwali was the Cooking Masterclass. Former IS parent Jeyashri demonstrated how to make traditional Indian/Diwali delicacies: sweet Chocolate Milk Peda and savory Oat Mixture Snack using fun, easy-to-follow recipes. Parents and students then made the authentic dishes themselves to take home.
“This was the first time I made authentic Indian food! Can’t wait for the next class.” (from participants)
Special thanks to Jeyashri and participants Angel, Anna, Catherine, Fumika, Jihye, Pancy, Pauline, Polly, Yukie and the twenty Y7 students and of course, Ms. Chisulo and Food Tech technicians for their support.
